Romantic Comedy Genre Research

 Romantic Comedy

Romantic comedies are normally portrayed through different posters or viewings at theaters. This genre is made for romance lovers and comedy lovers conjoin and see the ups and downs and funny parts of how romantic stories could flow with one another. This is shown through cute dates, attractive actors, beautiful scenery, etc.

The production technique of romantic comedies include very similar storylines. For example, two characters meet throughout another person, they are not supposed to find an interest in each other which leads them to go on dates, they find out something they do not like about one another and try to leave only to realize they need one another and finalize to them falling in love all over again. This also involves other situations or people who add tension to the love bond in between the two characters.

Romantic comedies are typically marketed to their target audience which are normally 13-32 year old women. As there are women's who show these types of movies to their parents or significant other and also use this genre for "girl's night" so they all could fangirl over the film together. There are always posters with they two characters slightly touching each other or not touching each other at all. Many producers do this to add tension and curiosity to what might happen in the film. Posters or magazines of romantic comedies normally include colors that could be considered cute; such as light pink, baby blue, beige or a pastel yellow.


"10 Things I Hate About You" is one of the most watched romcoms. Not only does it  involve two attractive main characters (Julia Stiles and Heath Ledger), but a sweet message on how to not judge a book by its cover. Kat Stratford is a bold, seen as rude, serious, straightforward, smart, athletic girl who seems to have no interest in boys as her sister Bianca, is the complete opposite. This only leads to a group of boys placing a bet Patrick Verona, the schools bully, tough-guy would not be able to make Kat fall in love with him. At the end of the film the two characters end up falling in love with each other regardless of the bet. They both realize the love, humor, and care they have for each other. Throughout the film, there is a paintball date people to this day dress up as for Halloween, low-rise jeans with cute small tops that flatter Julia Stile's body type. As for Heath Ledger, dark, cigarettes' and attractive aura flows with him as the film goes on. Furthermore, there are so many details showing the true love between these two because of the amount of detail they both notice about each other. The film has numerous songs, such as "Can't Take my Eyes Off You" Patrick sang to Kat on the football stands during her soccer practice.





"How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days" is a romcom starring Matthew McCaughey and Kate Hudson. This film, such as many other romantic comedies, involves accidental emotions towards two characters of them falling in love. In this film, two characters were going behind each others back, after they both chose one another without the other person knowing, only testing each other on how to lose a guy in 10 days and how to make a girl fall in love with him in 10 days. These two characters end up making bets or simply blogging about their experiences on each others stories without one another knowing. They go on so many events as one is trying make the other lose feelings and the other is trying to make sure the other persons feelings stay. The girl attempts to annoy him by asking to go buy her a drink or a snack during the middle of a baseball game as the man is a heavily based baseball fan. The man has no other choice but to get her the drink or snack to ensure he is not going to lose her. This film prioritizes the two characters get cute, romantic scenes with one another to try and make sure the viewer realizes before the characters in the movie that they have potential of being a cute couple.
