Music Marketing #1

Recently, I decided to get into a group with fun people that made me happy of my decision. We had completed a planning sheet for when we would work on the project and other details. From the selection we had been given, we chose an Adele song but changed it today to Electric Feel by MGMT that came out in 2008.

I have a background with this song. Since I have an older brother, my music taste has always stayed diverse, and I would consider it as cool since I would get into my brother's music when I was younger. Electric Feel was a song me and my siblings would listen to often in the car back in 2014-2018. It was just part of the playlist my brother would always play for us. It was one of our favorite songs, regardless of the meaning or the message of the song, we loved it.

Today in class me and my group had a big discussion in order to get on the same page about what we wanted to do. I think it had progressively went better the longer we discussed because ones idea was interfering or the complete opposite of someone else's idea. MGMT's music video on this particular song is quite interesting. Although, Electric Feel is an absolute banger, the video is something we wouldn't want to replicate. I think many would say the music video or the song is weird or strange, but I see it as cool and fun. Especially to be able to create a music video to the song, it's like living a dream of mine back in 2016 to be in a music video for a long I really liked.

At the beginning, in the Adele song we had selected, it would be us taking advantage of the lyrics being very straightforward. We would have just ended up simply acting out the words coming out of Adele's mouth, the only difference would be us acting it out in a storytelling way. One of my group members had mentioned how it was boring and simple, another group member mentioned how our teacher said it had to be simple. Something I enjoy about my group is that we listen each other out until we agree and get on the same level.

This is our planning sheet I had wrote out when discussing with my group about the important, beginning factors of our project.

We ended up realizing how even though it's something simple, doing something different, not the type of thing one would first resort to, would be fun to experiment with. Finally, we had agreed on the type of vibes we were getting from the music video, the rhythm, beat, and lyrics: fun, freedom, young, and teenagers living in their comfort. It'd be a very laid back, out of sight problems out of mind problems vibe, living the moment and freewill to the max vibes. Only me and one other teammate had seen the music video of Electric Feel so we were almost on the save wavelength. We also agreed on our band name being Tempered Glass, pretty cool. It was mainly my idea because I thought of how pretty stained glass is and then my teammate had mentioned tempered glass.

The type of shots or subjects we plan on including in our music video would be numerous cuts that align with the fun beat, a neon colored aura outlining our silhouette, and us simply having fun, doing random things as we film on a cam recorder. We plan on filming in Las Olas, the very beginning shot including a radio in one of our teammates car, the beach, the top floor of the parking garage in Sawgrass Malls and more. We have had a group chat for projects and we plan on starting the upcoming Monday! I'm excited and happy to be able to make friends, work with these people, and create something I never thought I'd be able to create.
